Trained at the University of the Arts Berlin and Filmuniversity in Babelsberg, Martina Dimitrova is a designer and scenographer whose work is deeply inspired by architectural and natural irregularities, traditional craft and ancient artifacts, as well as the everyday aesthetics we encounter. Her practice is strongly intuitive, experimental, and process-driven, creating a compelling tension by juxtaposing these contrasting influences.
Over the years, her practice has spanned various media and commissions within spatial projects and object design. In 2022, Martina launched her sculptural practice with the SLOY series, showcasing pieces crafted exclusively from historical and sustainable building materials. She has delved into these materials, now mostly employed in restoration, experimenting with scratching and layering to create intricate patterns and illustrations. Her current series of sculptural furniture reimagines the Sgraffito and Scagliola techniques, utilizing lime plasters and incorporating additional elements, such as marble and mica.
